Food Biography
David Munns
David is an award winning food and drink photographer from London, England. After completing the basics of his education at Cat Hill, David went on to study photography at Bournemouth and Poole College of art and design to get better and more advanced training and education. Shoreditch (an inner city district in the historic East End of London) became his work place after returning to London in 1989, assisting a food and drink photographer, quickly graduating from 2nd assistant to shooting for his own clients. David’s first job was shooting Keith Floyd for a Kingsmill commercial. David set up his own studio in Clerkenwell in 1996 and has worked in the area ever since.
David has done very well and has made a lot of clients happy. He’s recently done advertisements for Nutella and Madeleines. He was in the top 10 food photographers in 2011 according to David White (another food photographer). He said “David Munns food photography work shares a common theme of being shot in strong but diffuse light, giving a very light and carefree summer feel to his work. David often favours classic angled for plated food – the part cropped plate with a low viewing angle. Lovely images.”
I think David Munns is a great photographer and puts food into real places where people actually spend time together and eat together. He also puts pictures in the preparation state when they are not done and look pretty, he shows it while it’s in its “dirty” form.
